About You

As the Assistant Pastoral Care (Coordinator 2), you will inspire students through engaging, student-centered teaching within a Catholic learning environment. The Assistant Pastoral Care Coordinator works closely with the Pastoral Care Coordinator, supporting students with social-emotional needs that are hindering their learning and engagement in the College. Student intervention and support are offered by this role before escalation to the Pastoral Care Coordinator. Working as a case manager for low to mid range student concerns to support a student's sense of belonging and motivation to participate in College life.

This is a Middle Leadership position, responsible for working closely with families, counsellors, social workers, SCS Wellbeing team, students and the Pastoral Care Coordinator to implement effective strategies to re-engage students at school. The mission of Sydney Catholic Schools is to know and love Christ through learning, and our vision is to foster thriving Catholic communities through excellent teaching and learning. This role focuses on managing the well-being needs of the College, to support the faith life, pastoral and curriculum needs of the school. The Assistant Pastoral Care Coordinator will monitor students with attendance concerns, low to medium level behavioural plans and SSPs, engagement of students with health concerns through developing effective support structures, liaising closely with Year Coordinators and Assistant Year Coordinators before escalation to the Pastoral Care Coordinator. This leader also supports the positive affirmation of student engagement and wellbeing through school initiatives, including the award system, community days and student leadership programs. 

The Assistant Pastoral Care Coordinator supports the Pastoral Care Coordinator and Assistant Principal in their leadership of the College through effective administration and case management of students in Years 7 to 12 with pastoral concerns. The role requires sound relationship skills in liaising with parents and caregivers, and the ability to promote and foster a positive College climate and culture. As an experienced Year Coordinator, the Assistant Pastoral Care Coordinator has the knowledge, experience and confidence to lead pastoral initiatives. This position is a 2-point promotional role, temporary for 1 year (to be reviewed), however your teaching position will be full-time and ongoing. You'll bring:

  • expertise and experience in your subject area, with capacity to teach Religious Education (advantageous)
  • a tertiary qualification in Education & NESA accreditation
  • a commitment to the Catholic ethos of the College, the Catholic Church and the wellbeing of all community members
  • ability to create and implement engaging, rigorous planned learning experiences catering to the diverse needs of students
  • a commitment to academic excellence
  • excellent classroom management skills focused on student well-being
  • demonstrated organisational, management and leadership skills
  • exemplary teacher experience with the ability to integrate successful pedagogical practices in the classroom, programming and assessment
  • the capacity to communicate effectively, whilst maintaining confidentiality and discretion to support the dignity of all students, parents and staff
  • capabilities of a highly accomplished teacher within the context of the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers
  • the confidence to make decisions to implement SCS policies and procedures
  • demonstrated high-level interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively, delegate, team build, and resolve conflict appropriately
  • ability to interact and network with a wide range of people, including staff, students, parents and external providers
  • a sound knowledge of school operations and environments
  • highly developed communication skills, both verbal and written
  • an understanding of Restorative Justice principles
  • capabilities of managing conflict with students, staff and parents underpinned by the principles of Restorative Justice
  • experience as a Year Coordinator.
