Applications/Expressions of Interest are invited for the temporary full-time vacancy of AO8 Principal Policy Officer within Governance, Strategy and Planning, Strategy and Performance Branch. This temporary vacancy is a maternity leave backfill, available from mid November 2025 until 31 December 2026, unless otherwise determined.

About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Principal Policy Officer to join the Strategy Design team within the Strategy and Performance Branch. In this temporary full-time role, you will collaborate with subject matter experts across the department to develop innovative strategies and design key policy initiatives. Your work will address emerging challenges, support evidence-based decision-making, and shape strategic initiatives for departmental executives.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the development of major briefings, reports, and Cabinet submissions.
• Provide strategic advice and innovative policy solutions for senior leaders, including the Minister and Director-General.
• Manage and deliver key projects and programs, offering guidance and technical support to teams.
• Develop governance frameworks, strategic plans, and operational initiatives to support departmental objectives.
• Build strong partnerships with stakeholders, negotiate effectively, and represent the department in internal and external forums.
• Provide executive support to senior committees and contribute to the department's future direction.

About the Team

You will work alongside a small, skilled team of policy experts, project officers, and data visualisation specialists. Together, the team partners with stakeholders to create impactful strategies and frameworks that align with the department's objectives.
