Youth Development Officer

This is a 6 month fixed term, full-time position commencing August 2026 with possible extension (6 months)

Broome Residential College is seeking to recruit a highly motivated Youth Development Officer.

The Role

The Youth Development Officer plays a key role in enhancing student wellbeing, engagement and participation by planning, coordinating and delivering a range of recreational, cultural and wellbeing programs. This includes organising activities, camps, outings and targeted initiatives that promote resilience, positive behaviour and meaningful connections to school and community.

Working collaboratively with the College Manager, staff, families and external service providers, the role supports students through individual, small-group and whole-of-college programs. The position assists in identifying student needs, developing intervention and engagement strategies, establishing support networks, and coordinating access to relevant services to improve educational and wellbeing outcomes.

The Youth Development Officer provides advice and support to college staff on student wellbeing matters and contributes to case management processes through participation in case conferences and stakeholder meetings. The role also undertakes administrative responsibilities, including maintaining student records, preparing reports, documenting case notes and ensuring accurate data management to support effective service delivery.

Eligibility

To work with us, you must:

  • be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident or have a valid visa with relevant work rights for the term of the appointment.
  • consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit before you start.
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check
  • work according to rostered hours which may include nights, weekends and public holidays
  • hold a current Western Australian ‘C’ or ‘C-A’ Class Driver’s Licence.

  2. Demonstrated interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish effective working relationships with people from a wide range of backgrounds.
  3. Demonstrated negotiation, mediation and conflict resolutions skills with relevant experience working with students who require support.
  4. Ability to work independently and as a member of a team without direct supervision.
  5. Demonstrated effective planning and organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities within timelines.
