  • have graduated with a qualification in early childhood education, primary or secondary education, and are in the first two years of teaching; or
  • are in your final year of study in early childhood education, primary education, or secondary education.

Apply for graduate teacher vacancies throughout the state

One application offers you a range of opportunities. By submitting your application, you can be considered for vacancies in public schools in both metropolitan and regional areas.

When submitting your application, you can nominate:

  • the schools or education regions in which you would like to work;
  • your preferred work fraction – part time, full time or both; and
  • your areas of qualification, interest and experience.

Your application can only be submitted online. Emailed and hard copy applications are not accepted.

After you have submitted your application online, you will receive a confirmation email. If you do not receive a confirmation email, or are experiencing any trouble submitting your online application, please contact Recruitment on (08) 9264 5083.

How to apply

Select “Apply for Job” at either the top or bottom of this advertisement and follow the instructions on your screen. Please answer all mandatory questions, and have the following documents ready to attach:

  • a comprehensive, up-to-date CV;
  • identification (i.e. birth certificate or passport. If your name has changed, also include a change of name document or marriage certificate). Please note we do not accept driver’s licences.
  • evidence of your eligibility to work in Australia. You can be appointed to a permanent graduate teacher position where you have:
    • Australian or New Zealand citizenship
    • Permanent residency
    • A temporary visa that allows you to work without sponsorship from an employer (note that temporary visa holders can be offered ongoing employment in permanent positions, in line with the expiry date of their visa)
  • evidence of your current Western Australian teacher registration or an acknowledgement of receipt of application from the Teacher Registration Board of Western Australia to show you have applied for (provisional) Registration.
  • final academic transcripts identifying your course of study, including copies of undergraduate degrees and any postgraduate qualifications (if applicable). Web printouts are acceptable. Your transcripts must include:
    • your name
    • university name
    • course name
    • units completed
    • current enrolment/course completion or conferral date

You will also be asked to provide details of two professional referees – one of which should be your current or most recent line manager where possible. You can also ask your mentor teacher from your teaching practicums to be your referee.

The selection process

Your application will be considered in two stages.

Stage 1: eligibility check

In stage 1, we will confirm your:

  • Identity
  • Eligibility to work in Australia
  • Qualifications
  • Teacher Registration (either current, or ability to hold Registration at the time of graduation and commencement of employment)

We will confirm this with you once it has been completed. Confirmation of completion of stage 1 should not be interpreted as a guarantee of employment as a graduate teacher.

Stage 2: suitability assessment

Once we have confirmed your eligibility, principals may contact you in relation to graduate teacher opportunities in their school, as they arise.

Before offering you employment as a graduate teacher, the principal will consider your suitability for an identified vacancy at their school. You can be considered for vacancies where you have:

  • selected the school in your location preferences
  • nominated the teaching or learning area in your teaching preferences
  • nominated the work fraction that matches the vacancy.

Principals will then undertake an assessment of suitability in relation to the job requirements. To do this they may:

  • review your application, including your CV and any other attachments you have provided
  • invite you to attend an interview
  • contact your referees.

You may or may not be contacted by a principal about a vacancy.

Where the principal offers you a contract of employment, this is subject to you meeting eligibility requirements prior to commencing employment. These include:
