New Zealand Teacher Employment Register

Western Australia is a great place to live and teach. Our public schools are located across our vast state, offering opportunities to live and work in diverse regional communities.

Our purpose is clear: every student, every classroom, every day.

The Department of Education is seeking applications from teachers currently living in New Zealand, who want to relocate to Western Australia. The appointment pool is for teachers wanting to teach in a variety of regional schools only.

Teaching in Western Australian public schools comes with great benefits.

About the Register

The New Zealand Teacher Employment Register identifies teachers who meet the eligibility requirements for employment in regional Western Australian public schools.

Teachers who meet the required eligibility criteria and provide the necessary documentation may be included on the register. Inclusion on the register is not an offer of employment and does not guarantee appointment to a teaching position.

When suitable vacancies arise, schools may consider teachers whose qualifications, experience, visa status and location preferences align with their workforce needs.

Who Can Apply?

You may be eligible if you:

  • are qualified as an Early Childhood, Primary, Secondary or Education Support teacher
  • are interested in teaching in regional Western Australian public schools
  • meet the qualification and teacher registration requirements
  • meet the visa and working rights requirements relevant to your circumstances.

Relocation Support

The Department of Education may provide relocation support to eligible teachers appointed through the register, including:

  • Flights for you and your immediate family from an interstate location
  • flights for the teacher and eligible immediate family members
  • induction activities in Perth
  • access to subsidised housing in eligible locations, subject to availability

Why work with us?

Western Australia offers an incredible lifestyle, from pristine beaches, forests and vineyards in the south to the tropical north and iconic outback landscapes. Its diversity provides endless opportunities to explore and enjoy the Australian way of life.

Many teachers describe their time in regional schools as one of the most rewarding experiences of their careers, both professionally and personally. They value the strong sense of community, opportunities for career growth, and the meaningful relationships they build with students, families and colleagues.

Cultural awareness and understanding are important aspects of teaching in regional Western Australia. The Aboriginal Cultural Standards Framework supports staff to work respectfully and effectively with Aboriginal students, their families and communities.

Regional schools are known for their welcoming communities, supportive environments and strong partnerships between schools and families. Teachers often become active members of their local communities, contributing to high levels of job satisfaction and a strong sense of belonging.

Eligibility

Qualification Eligibility

To teach in a Western Australian public regional school, you must have a recognised, completed initial teacher education qualification. This may be a completed Bachelor of Education, or equivalent, or an undergraduate degree and a post-graduate teaching qualification.

To teach in Western Australian public schools, you must hold both a satisfactory Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check, and a Working with Children Check. You will need these later in the selection process, before you are offered employment or commence work. You do not need them to apply to this register.

You must also be eligible for registration with the Teacher Registration Board of Western Australia. Please note, to be eligible for registration you will need to demonstrate that you meet qualification, English language and fit and proper requirements.

If you already live in Western Australia, do not apply for this New Zealand Teacher Employment Register. Apply for the fixed term, graduate, Remote Teaching Service Employment Registers, or for individual advertised vacancies.
