International Teacher Employment Register - UK, Republic of Ireland, Canada and South Africa

The Department of Education invites expressions of interest from qualified teachers who are considering relocating to Western Australia and teaching in regional public schools. Registrations are currently invited from teachers who are citizens of:
- United Kingdom
- Republic of Ireland
- South Africa
- Canada
About the Register
The International Teacher Employment Register is used to identify teachers who meet the eligibility requirements for employment in regional Western Australian public schools. Teachers who meet the eligibility requirements and provide the required documentation may be included on the register. Registration does not constitute an offer of employment and does not guarantee appointment to a position. Where suitable employment opportunities arise, Teachers may be contacted regarding vacancies that align with their qualifications, experience, visa requirements and location preferences.
Who Can Apply?
You may be eligible for inclusion on the International Teacher Employment Register if you:
- are qualified as an early childhood, primary, secondary or education support teacher
- are interested in teaching in regional Western Australian public schools
- meet the qualification and registration requirements outlined in this advertisement
- meet the visa and working rights requirements relevant to your circumstances
Teachers requiring employer-sponsored visa support must also have a minimum of one year of full-time teaching experience as a qualified teacher gained within the previous five years.
Teachers may be citizens of one of the nominated countries:
- requiring visa sponsorship
- with existing Australian working rights
- currently residing in Australia and seeking sponsorship where eligible
Relocation Support
The Department of Education may provide relocation support to eligible teachers appointed through the register, including:
- employer-sponsored visa pathways (subject to eligibility)
- flights for the teacher and eligible immediate family members
- induction activities in Perth
- access to subsidised housing in eligible locations, subject to availability
Relocation support arrangements are subject to departmental policy and may change from time to time.

Eligibility
To be eligible for the International Register you must meet one of the following:
- Are a citizen of one of the nominated countries and require visa sponsorship to work in Western Australian public regional schools as a teacher
- Live in one of the nominated countries and already hold independent working rights to work in Western Australia (and will require relocation support only)
- Live in Australia and are a citizen of one of the nominated countries, and require visa sponsorship to work in Western Australian public schools as a teacher.
Qualification Eligibility
To teach in a Western Australian public school, you must have a recognised, completed initial teacher education qualification. This may be a completed Bachelor of Education, or equivalent, or an undergraduate degree and a post-graduate teaching qualification. Please note that the Department does not recognise the Qualified Teaching Status (QTS) certification where it is not held in conjunction with a suitable Initial Teacher Education qualification, awarded by a recognised university.
To be eligible to work as a teacher in WA you must:
- be eligible for registration with the Teacher Registration Board of Western Australia (TRBWA)
- meet the qualification, English language and fit and proper requirements of the TRBWA
- where applicable, provide evidence of English language proficiency through an International English Language Testing System (Academic) (IELTS) test
To teach in Western Australian public schools, you must hold both a satisfactory Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check, and a Working with Children Check. You will need these later in the selection process, before you are offered employment or commence work. You do not need them to apply to this register. You must also be eligible for registration with the Teacher Registration Board of Western Australia. Please note, to be eligible for registration you will need to demonstrate that you meet qualification, English language and fit and proper requirements.
Teachers who completed their teaching qualification outside Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, Canada, United States or the Republic of Ireland must provide IELTS. You will be required to demonstrate your English language skills, through an International English Language Testing System (Academic) (IELTS) test. Evidence of this is an eligibility requirement prior to submitting a registration. The scores required are an average of level 7.5 or more across the 4 components of listening, speaking, reading and writing and no score below level 7 in any of those components and a score of level 8 or more in the components of speaking and listening.

Your working rights and how we can support you
Teachers with existing Australian working rights are encouraged to apply to this register. Please make note in your registration if you do not require visa sponsorship.
The Department of Education can provide visa sponsorship through an employer sponsored visa. An example of this is for appointment for up to 4 years on a Skills in Demand Visa (482) for Early Childhood, Primary, Education Support and Secondary teachers. This will allow you to live and work in Western Australia in your specified role and location, and also allow your spouse or partner full working rights as long as your visa is valid.
The Registration process
For the initial eligibility requirements, your registration must include:
- Identification
- a comprehensive CV (of no more than five pages) - You will need to include details of two recent referees who can attest to your teaching experience and background.
- a three-page statement addressing the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL) teaching domains.
- Transcripts - completed Bachelor of Education, or equivalent, or an undergraduate degree and a post-graduate teaching qualification.
- Qualified Teaching Status (QTS) certification must be held in conjunction with a suitable Initial Teacher Education qualification, awarded by a recognised university.
- Evidence of IELTS if teaching qualification not completed in one of the nominated countries.
- at least 1 year full time teaching experience as a qualified teacher gained in the past 5 years and meet the eligibility requirements outlined above.
Registering for the International Employment Register is easy, there are three steps:
Step 1: Registering online

Once you have prepared all documentation, complete the online registration process by selecting “Apply for Job” at either the top or bottom of this advertisement. Registrations must be submitted online.
You will be asked a series of questions regarding your qualifications and working rights. You will be asked to nominate your preferred regional locations by selecting our education regions. You can find out more about our schools and education regions here.
Step 2: Complete your online registration
You will receive a confirmation email after you have submitted your registration online.

Step 3: Providing a video to finalise your registration
If your initial eligibility registration is successful, you will receive further information and instructions on how to access and complete the VIEPLE recording.
You will need to complete a short video using the VIEPLE platform. This finalises your registration into the International Teacher Employment Register.
What Happens Next?
When suitable vacancies arise, schools will review Teachers whose qualifications, experience and location preferences that align with their workforce needs.
As part of a school's assessment process for a specific vacancy, Teachers may be asked to provide additional information or undertake other employment-related assessments.
Schools will determine the suitability of Teachers for individual vacancies in accordance with Department of Education recruitment and selection processes.
