The School
Perth Modern School, a proud government school, is Western Australia's only fully selective school for academically gifted students in Years 7 to 12. The school honours rich traditions, empowers those present and shapes the future for gifted and talented learners and leaders.
Teaching is underpinned by purposeful differentiation, allowing us to tailor content, process, and product to meet the readiness, interests, and learning profiles of our gifted and high-potential students. Through curriculum telescoping, students may progress through multiple years of content in a shorter timeframe, enabling access to more advanced and rigorous learning. Curriculum compacting allows students to skip content they have already mastered, freeing time for engaging tasks that emphasise abstraction, conceptual depth, and big ideas. Where appropriate, students may access acceleration, in a subject area or whole-year level, guided by structured processes to ensure both academic readiness and wellbeing. Enrichment and extension are embedded across all learning areas and year levels, encouraging exploration of interdisciplinary links, higher-order thinking, and real-world problem solving.
