Where You’ll Be Working

This role is based at the Lower Mid North Coast Opiate Dependence Service, a small and highly engaged treatment service located on the Manning Base Hospital campus in Taree. Positioned along the Manning River and surrounded by beautiful natural landscapes, Taree offers the perfect combination of regional tranquillity and everyday convenience. With essential services, supermarkets, cafés and shops all within walking distance, you’ll enjoy a short commute and a relaxed lifestyle.
The service sits close to the coastal towns of Forster and Tuncurry, giving you easy access to stunning beaches, riverfront walks, boating, fishing and weekend escapes. Affordable housing, welcoming communities, great schools and vibrant local markets make Taree an ideal base for health professionals looking for balance, connection and a strong sense of place.
The team culture is warm, inclusive and genuinely supportive. You’ll be working alongside a multidisciplinary team who value collaboration, enjoy working together, and are deeply passionate about supporting patients and their families with empathy, respect and professionalism.

About the Role

As a Registered Nurse in the Drug and Alcohol team, you will deliver compassionate, specialised clinical care to people experiencing substance use issues. Your work will span withdrawal management, medication support, harm-minimisation education and brief counselling, while ensuring care is always trauma-informed, person-centred and respectful of each individual’s goals and circumstances.
Each day brings meaningful interactions with patients as you collaborate closely with families, carers and the multidisciplinary team to support recovery, improve safety and enhance wellbeing. You will also coordinate referrals to rehabilitation and community-based services, ensuring continuity of care and empowering patients toward independence and resilience. From your first day, you’ll be supported by a dedicated Nurse Unit Manager, a Clinical Nurse Consultant and a team of experienced Registered Nurses and administration staff.
This is a role where your communication skills, empathy and professionalism truly matter—and where the care you deliver has a tangible impact on individuals and the broader community. You’ll receive a thorough orientation to the service and ongoing access to experienced educators, clinical guidance and multidisciplinary support. Whether you are new to the specialty or expanding your career within Drug and Alcohol services, you will have opportunities for professional development, mentorship and continuous learning within a team that values growth and collaboration.

About You

  • You are calm, approachable and grounded, with a genuine commitment to person-centred care.
  • You bring a respectful, good-natured presence to your work and understand the importance of maintaining professional and ethical boundaries at all times.
  • You thrive in a team environment, value collaborative practice and communicate effectively with colleagues and patients alike.

Whether you already have experience in drug and alcohol care or are motivated to develop your skills in this area, you’re someone who brings compassion, curiosity and steadiness to each interaction.
Above all, you are committed to providing safe, compassionate care and supporting individuals through what can be some of the most challenging and transformative moments of their lives.
