Deputy Manager Classification and Placement Group - Talent Pool
Location – Statewide (Various Locations)

Salary – $142,961 - (plus employer’s contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading)
Your role
Reporting to the Deputy Superintendent, Manager of Classification and Placement, you will support the effective delivery of inmate classification, placement and transfer processes across correctional centres within an assigned region and/or portfolio, on a rotational basis.
You will exercise sound judgement and operate with a high level of integrity and autonomy, ensuring all processes align with legislative, policy and procedural requirements. You will also act as a key point of contact, providing advice and support to internal and external stakeholders on classification, placement and inmate case management.
What you’ll do
- Work closely with the Deputy Superintendent / Manager for your region or portfolio to manage inmate classification, placement and movement, ensuring all decisions follow legislation, policies and procedures.
- Review recommendations from Classification and Placement Teams and use independent judgement to decide where inmates should be classified and placed, including those received from courts or transferred from other centres.
- Assess and determine appropriate placements for inmates, including serious offenders, with a focus on maintaining safety, security and order within correctional centres, supporting community safety, and contributing to rehabilitation and reintegration outcomes.
- Provide practical advice and guidance to correctional centre management teams on classification, placement and movement decisions.
- Monitor changes in the inmate population and identify issues that may impact classification and placement processes, providing advice to address emerging challenges.
- Assist in preparing responses to enquiries from internal and external stakeholders, including government agencies, oversight bodies, inmate families and members of the public, in line with legislative and policy requirements.
- Provide information and advice to the Serious Offenders Review Council and its sub‑committees and monitor the implementation of decisions for inmates under the Council’s oversight.
- Participate in committees and decision‑making forums, ensuring fairness in processes and providing advice and support to stakeholders on classification and placement matters.
What we’re looking for
- Current NSW driver’s licence and have a willingness/ability to drive within NSW.
- Current Certificate III in Correctional Practice or relevant experience in a custodial environment
