Horticulturist
Melbourne Grammar School is seeking a hands-on Horticulturalist to join our talented and high-preforming Grounds Team. Working across our three campuses, this role will take stewardship of our gardens and landscaped areas, working with our Head of Grounds to establish an environment that is vibrant, welcoming and sustainable.
Our Grounds team is a supportive and collaborative team of experts who create and maintain seasonal garden beds, landscaped sculpture gardens and an array of turf and synthetic fields and courts. The role of Horticulturalist is charged with developing spaces that encourage play, like the Native forest at our primary School, and reflection, whilst supporting native species.
This role will see you:
- Design, develop and maintain the School's gardens and landscaped areas
- Be responsible for the selection and planting of trees, shrubs, perennials, and annuals suited to our climate and community needs
- Maintain hedges, prune trees when required, and carry out seasonal pruning of herbaceous perennials and roses
- Install and program irrigation systems in line with sustainable practice
- Use and operate horticulture machinery and chemicals in a safe and responsible manner
- Support the wider grounds and turf teams to ensure high quality fields and pitches for our co-curricular programs
What you bring:
- Trade certificate or diploma in Horticulture
- Industry experience in garden design and plant care
- An ability to work collaboratively with a diverse range of colleagues and contractors
- A positive attitude and capacity to work autonomously and in a team
- Must hold or be willing to obtain a current Employee Working with Children check
