Job description
We are seeking suitable applicants to join the team as Emergency Senior Resident Medical Officers (SRMOs) at the Royal Hobart Hospital in 2027.

The Tasmanian Health Service is expanding to meet the needs of our community, and the Royal Hobart Hospital (RHH) is seeking Senior Resident Medical Officer(s) (SRMO) to join our growing team in the Emergency Department.
Based on the scenic waterfront area of Hobart, the RHH is our tertiary referral hospital for the state, and our Emergency Department is a Stage 4 accredited site for both adult and paediatric emergency medicine, offering 36 months of training with ACEM or two years of advanced training under the pre-2022 program.
The Role of Senior Resident Medical Officer (SRMO) – Emergency Department
This is a new role in the department to help support and develop our Senior Resident Medical Officers (SRMOs) transition towards becoming a Registrar. As one of our SRMOs you’ll provide emergency care to patients attending the Emergency Department (ED) at the Royal Hobart Hospital (RHH).
Your roster will align with the Registrar roster with day / evening / night shifts across all areas of the department including resus. SRMOs have access to a teaching program.

Period of Employment
Fixed term, full-time (and part-time hours available), working up to 76 hours per fortnight, commencing from 1 February 2027 to 8 February 2028. (Please note that an earlier commencement from 3 August 2026 may be considered for applicants who are available to commence sooner)
Duties
- Assessment and management of Emergency Department patients
- Care of patients admitted to the Emergency Medical Unit (EMU)
- Involvement in Quality Assurance activities
Essential Requirements
Registration with the Medical Board of Australia and is eligible for employment in a position normally occupied by a Senior Resident Medical Officer. Pre-employment checks including conviction checks, identification check and disciplinary action in previous employment check.
