Deputy Principal

We are seeking to establish a pool of Deputy Principals for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2026 school year. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period. The position may include a teaching component anywhere up to 0.4FTE.

Maylands Peninsula Primary School (PS) is an Independent Public School located in the suburb of Maylands approximately 5km east of the Perth CBD. There are currently 750 students across the school from Kindergarten to 6 with over half of these students in the Kindergarten to 2 area. We have an ever-increasing number of students presenting at school with an English as an Additional Language (EAL) background (52%) with 40 different countries represented in the school with 72 different languages spoken.

The Role

In collaboration with the Principal and Leadership Team, the Deputy Principal should provide strategic leadership to promote the school’s vision, business plan, and strategic directions. The Deputy Principal plays a key role in embedding a positive school culture that fosters strong relationships across the community.

Key Responsibilities may include:

Instructional Leadership

  • Lead the development and implementation of the school’s curriculum and pedagogy aligned with the Quality Teaching Strategy and Teaching for Impact.
  • Ensure high-quality instruction through evidence-based approaches, explicit teaching, and high-impact strategies.
  • Leading data literacy (NAPLAN, Elastik, PAT, DIBELS etc.) to drive decision-making and coach staff on planning, teaching and assessing.
  • Build staff capability through mentoring, coaching, and performance management processes.
  • Support whole-school assessment and reporting processes to ensure alignment and accountability.

Student Services Management

  • Develop and implement inclusive practices for students with diverse learning needs.
  • Oversee the case management and planning for students with disabilities, in collaboration with staff, families, and external agencies.
  • Coordinate disability resourcing and intervention programs for academic, social, and emotional support.
  • Analyse behaviour and attendance data to guide early intervention and resource allocation.
  • Act as a liaison with families and external services to support vulnerable students.

Operational Responsibilities

  • Undertake human resource management responsibilities e.g. coordinate relief appointments in Casual Staff Seeker, approve leave requests and complete payroll certification duties.
  • Undertake operational responsibilities, such as coordinating On-Entry and NAPLAN assessments, undertaking timetabling e.g. IMSS, PEAC, DOTT and duty rosters, and the purchase of stock.
