Child Safeguarding Officer

About the Role

This role is responsible for enhancing staff understanding of child protection regulations and procedures across Sydney Catholic Schools (SCS). Through the design and delivery of targeted learning programs and accessible support resources, the position strengthens organisational capability and fosters a culture of child safety.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• designing and delivering professional development programs on safeguarding, aligned with NSW Child Safe Standards and the National Catholic Safeguarding Standards in line with NESA requirements
• developing and maintaining mandatory online learning courses that meet legislative and compliance standards
• creating accessible, engaging and visually pleasing child safety resources such as fact sheets, forms and checklists that reflect best practice
• reviewing and enhancing safeguarding policies, procedures, and training offerings based on identified needs
• tracking staff training attendance and compliance status with accuracy
• maintaining current knowledge of relevant child protection laws, regulations and practices
• ensuring all activities reflect SCS’s vision, mission, values, and Capability Framework
• performing other duties as required.

About You

To be successful in this position, you must possess:

• a relevant tertiary qualification (e.g. social work, psychology, community welfare, law, industrial relation, education) with 5+ years of post-qualification experience
• a strong understanding of NSW child protection legislative framework and related obligations for organisations
• a demonstrated knowledge of safeguarding and child protection principles and practices
• a proven ability to design and deliver professional learning programs
• confidence in using digital tools for training and communication
• a current driver’s licence and access to a car
• a willingness to respect, support and uphold the mission, ethos and teachings of the Catholic Church and the values of Sydney Catholic Schools.

Desirable:

• previous experience in Education and/or not-for-profit sectors
• Certificate in IV in Training and Assessment
• knowledge of Catholic Systemic Schools/Systems.
