Position Purpose
The primary role of the Youth Minister is to support the Religious Education Coordinator in achieving the best possible Faith formation outcomes for the school community demonstrating strong support for the vision and ministry of the Catholic school.
A secondary role is to assist in the continuing development and support of youth ministry throughout O’Connor Catholic College.
Commencement
The commencement date for this position will be negotiated with the successful applicant. Preferred as soon as possible after successful application.
Essential criteria
- Understanding of and commitment to the evangelising mission of the Catholic Church (preferably a practising Catholic).
- Demonstrated ability to relate authentically to young people, fostering a supportive and safe environment that encourages student growth and engagement.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment while also demonstrating the initiative to work independently.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor information for diverse audiences, including students, staff, parents/carers, and external partners.
- Demonstrated strong administrative, organisational, and time management skills, with a high level of attention to detail and a commitment to professional accountability.
- Demonstrated ability to develop, organise, promote, and manage student programs and events (e.g., social justice initiatives, liturgies, or youth conferences).
- Demonstrated understanding of professional boundaries, confidentiality, and mandatory reporting obligations within a school environment.
- Willingness and capacity to work outside normal hours as required (eg: retreats, training, Masses, Sacraments, Australian Catholic Youth Festival, including overnight events).
Desirable criteria
- Tertiary qualifications (completed or ongoing) in Theology, Religious Studies, Education, or a related field are highly regarded.
- Experience in youth ministry, faith formation, or student leadership, whether in a school setting, parish, or community-based organisation.
- Ability to play a musical instrument.
- Demonstrated competence in using multimedia tools and digital platforms.
- Current First Aid certification or willingness to obtain.
- Current Driver’s License.
