Catholic Education Diocese of Wollongong (CEDoW) comprises 38 Catholic schools with more then 20,000 students enrolled across the Illawarra, Macarthur, Shoalhaven and Southern Highlands regions.

THE OPPORTUNITY

The Executive Director of Schools invites applicants from suitably qualified and experienced personnel for this permanent full-time position of Workplace Investigator.

Reporting to the Team Leader - Employment and Industrial Relations, this position exists to conduct thorough and impartial investigations in alignment with Catholic Education, Diocese of Wollongong (CEDoW) policy, procedures, and relevant industrial and employment legislation. This position ensures that all allegations of misconduct, grievances, and compliance issues are addressed fairly and consistently, fostering a safe and respectful environment for staff, students, and the broader school community.

YOUR IMPACT

Your role will require you to:

  • Conduct workplace investigations into allegations of misconduct, grievances, and policy violations by workers. Interview relevant parties, gather evidence, analysing information to determine findings
  • Ensure investigations are conducted in accordance with CEDoW policy, procedures, and relevant industrial and employment legislation
  • Prepare comprehensive, objective investigation reports. Present findings and recommendations clearly and concisely to decision-makers and relevant stakeholders
  • Offer support and guidance to those involved in investigations, ensuring they understand the process and their rights
  • Identify systemic or organisational risks arising from investigations and recommended preventative strategies where appropriate
  • Contribute to organisational learning by identifying themes or trends arising from investigations and providing insights to inform policy, training and risk mitigation strategies

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

The successful applicant will have:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Human Resources, Employment Relations, Industrial Relations, Law or a related discipline
  • Demonstrated experience conducting workplace investigations and managing employment relations matters within a large and complex organisational environment
  • Strong knowledge of employment, industrial relations and work health and safety (WHS) legislation, with experience providing advice on workplace policy and processes
  • Highly developed analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to assess evidence and form objective findings
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear investigation reports and communicate complex matters effectively
  • Strong interpersonal, negotiation and conflict resolution skills, with the ability to engage constructively with stakeholders at all levels
  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and complex casework in a demanding environment.
  • High level of proficiency in ICT applications

Desirable

  • Formal mediation or investigation qualifications
