Your Opportunity

We are seeking dynamic and innovative Educators, TAFE Queensland proudly delivers maritime training as part of our commitment to the Pacific Maritime Training Services (PMTS). This initiative ensures several Pacific Island Countries receive relevant training with a standardised approach. We are currently seeking applications from experienced former Royal Australian Navy or Royal New Zealand Navy officers to deliver and further expand the course offerings. We are specifically looking for experience in Junior Officer development, Navigation and Bridge Watchkeeping.

As a key member of the teaching and delivery team, you will contribute to developing and delivering quality learning services to a wide range of clients through:

  • Linking with industry, schools, universities, other TAFE and VET providers;
  • Maintaining currency with industry practices, workplace delivery and contemporary teaching methodologies and philosophies;

Mandatory Qualifications/Requirements

a. Vocational competencies at least to the level being delivered and assessed;

  • Operational experience in navigation or bridge watchkeeping.
  • Demonstrated leadership and mentoring skills.
  • Strong knowledge of COLREGS, bridge procedures, and maritime safety.
  • Excellent communication and instructional ability.
  • Ability to work in a structured training environment.

b. Possession of one of the following training and assessment credentials: 

TAE40116 - Certificate IV in Training and Assessment;

TAE40110 - Certificate IV in Training and Assessment plus TAELLN411 Address Adult Language, Literacy and Numeracy Skills and TAEASS502 Design and Develop Assessment Tools;

TAE50111 - Diploma of Vocational Education and Training;

TAE50116 - Diploma of Vocational Education and Training; or its successor;

TAE50211 - Diploma of Training Design and Development;

TAE50216 - Diploma of Training Design and Development, or its successor;

Higher-level qualification in adult education (approved by TAFE Queensland).

c.  Current industry skills directly relevant to the training and assessment being provided;

d. Current knowledge and skills in vocational training and learning that informs the training and assessment provided;

e. Evidence of undertaking professional development in the fields of the knowledge and practice of vocational training, learning and assessment including competency-based training and assessment.

Note: Proof of qualifications and industry currency/experience to be provided at interview.

Highly Desirable Requirements

  • Former officer from RAN or RNZN
  • Experience in officer training or instructional roles within Defence.
  • Familiarity with simulator-based training.
  • Current maritime qualifications or endorsements.
