Registered Nurse – Renal Dialysis

Orange Health Service

About the role

No renal experience required — training and preceptorship provided.

If you’ve ever wanted to explore a new nursing specialty that has great work/life balance, learn advanced clinical skills, and work with a close-knit, and fun team — this is your opportunity.

In this role in the Renal Unit at Orange Hospital, you’ll join the 2025 Orange Health Service team of the year, make a genuine difference in the lives of people of our region and enjoying a balanced, rewarding career.

While a temporary contract due to extended maternity leave, applicants looking for an ongoing opportunity are encouraged to apply.

If you haven’t tried renal nursing before, it offers the rare combination of clinical challenge and lifestyle balance — it’s meaningful work that fits real life.

  • Predictable hours – Sundays off and no night shifts
  • Supportive start – extra mentoring and guidance as you learn the ropes
  • Strong work-life balance
  • Empower patients  – lots of opportunities to provide patient education and empowerment.

Whether you’re an experienced nurse seeking a change, or early in your career and ready to expand your skills, this is an ideal way to explore a specialised field in a safe, supportive environment.

Orange Health Service has the acute renal centre for the Western NSW Local Health District, offering exposure to a widely diverse range of presentations and treatments. Here, you’ll gain hands-on experience with:

  • Haemodialysis, Peritoneal Dialysis, Therapeutic Apheresis, and Home Dialysis
  • Pre-transplant workups and chronic disease management in collaboration with primary care
  • Research and clinical trials, with staff presenting at major renal conferences
  • Quality Improvement projects led by nurses in the unit
  • Integration of evidence-based practice into everyday care

You’ll be part of a small, passionate team where learning and laughter go hand in hand. The team’s motto: grow our own — meaning even if you’re new to renal nursing, you’ll be welcomed, trained, and supported to feel confident and capable with:

  • Access to educators and mentoring at every step
  • Active participation in research and clinical improvement initiatives
  • Encouragement to pursue postgraduate studies — over half our team already have!
  • A focus on empowering patients to manage their own health — including travel support for patients to continue enjoying life with treatment
  • Patients who love being in our unit – we receive ongoing positive feedback from patients about the professionalism, kindness and empathy of staff in the renal team
