Make an impact tackling modern slavery in NSW

The Office of the NSW Anti-slavery Commissioner (OASC) is seeking a Senior Policy Officer to join its Policy team and contribute to high-impact policy initiatives that address modern slavery across NSW.

This is an exciting opportunity to work closely with the Commissioner and senior leaders to research, design and advocate for evidence-based policy solutions that protect vulnerable people and strengthen NSW’s response to modern slavery.

Your role

As a Senior Policy Officer, you will undertake targeted research, develop high-quality policy advice and support the delivery of strategic initiatives aligned with the Commissioner’s statutory responsibilities under the Modern Slavery Act 2018 (NSW).

You will work autonomously on complex policy matters, manage competing priorities, and collaborate with stakeholders across government, business, civil society and lived-experience communities.

What you’ll do

  • Research, analyse and review complex modern slavery policy issues, identifying emerging risks and evidence-based solutions
  • Support the development, implementation and monitoring of policy strategies and initiatives
  • Prepare high-quality policy briefs, submissions, discussion papers and advice
  • Present complex information to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Support the Commissioner’s engagement activities, including presentations and stakeholder briefings
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders and coordinate consultations, working groups and committees
  • Monitor and evaluate policy initiatives to ensure intended outcomes are achieved

About the Office of the NSW Anti-slavery Commissioner

The Anti-slavery Commissioner is an independent statutory officer reporting to NSW Parliament. The OASC supports the Commissioner to advocate for and promote effective action to combat modern slavery in NSW, including forced labour, trafficking, debt bondage, forced marriage and other forms of exploitation.

OASC is a small, specialist statutory office experiencing growth and development, offering a unique opportunity to contribute to meaningful reform in a collaborative environment.

What we’re looking for

We’re seeking a motivated senior policy professional who can deliver high-quality research and advice in a fast-paced environment.

You’ll bring:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent experience in public policy, human rights, law or a related field
  • Demonstrated experience delivering research or policy projects end-to-end
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including translating complex issues for diverse audiences
  • Experience working on modern slavery, human rights or vulnerable population issues (highly regarded)
  • Sound judgment, strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities autonomously
