About our team
The remit of the Legal Counsel team entails a whole of organisation view in the proactive management and oversight of legal risks and strategic support across the organisation. The team monitors and manages BCE’s legal risk and exposure by providing strategic and timely legal advice and advocacy across a wide range of complex and sensitive legal matters, to support the Executive Director, Executives, Heads, BCEO Managers, Senior Leaders and Principals attached to BCE schools and BCEO functional areas.

As part of the Legal Counsel team, you will provide high quality paralegal capability and administrative support, as well as contribute to the efficient and effective delivery of legal services within Brisbane Catholic Education.

- Work hours: Full-time | Flexible working arrangements available
- Salary: $92,570 - $104,607 + super
- Status: Permanent (continuing)
About the opportunity
In this position you will be responsible for:
- Research and analyse legal and factual issues for Legal Counsel
- Assist Legal Counsel with all tasks including, but not limited to - litigation, legal correspondence, preparing matters for conference and hearing, filing of court documents
- Work with schools coordinating documents required for lodgement
- Point of contact for inquiries from internal and external stakeholders
- Undertake administrative duties, maintain relevant database, and monitor legislation changes
- Responding to a range of inquiries in relation to technical, administrative, or operational issues.
- Providing advice to internal and external stakeholders.
About you
To be successful in this position you will bring relevant contemporary skills and experience including:
- Relevant experience in a similar role, or a role requiring a similar skill set
- High level communication skills with a strong ability to engage, communicate and work effectively with people at all levels
- Ability to undertake and support legal research
- High level written skills in drafting legal documentation and correspondence
- Demonstrated ability to ensure confidentiality in a sensitive environment
- Excellent time management skills; eye for details; and strong organisational skills
- Near completion of tertiary qualification in Law or or Certificate IV in Legal Services, or Diploma of Paralegal Services would be desirable
Eligibility and Safeguarding requirements:
- Eligibility to work in Australia for the duration of the appointment
- Ability to obtain a National Criminal History check prior to commencement.
