About the Opportunity

Hunter New England Local Health District is seeking a highly experienced and influential leader to take on a district-wide, expert role leading Senior Medical Recruitment and workforce services.

This is a strategic leadership position with accountability for multiple specialist teams, including Senior Medical Recruitment, Medical Appointments and Credentialling, and the Locum function across both specialist and non-specialist medical.

Working in close partnership with the Hunter New England Medical Directorate, People and Culture, Directors of Medical Services and site management teams, you will play a critical role in shaping a sustainable, high-quality medical workforce that directly supports clinical service delivery and patient care across one of the largest health districts in NSW.

In this role, you will:

  • Provide district-wide leadership and expert oversight of senior medical recruitment, appointment, credentialling, onboarding and locum engagement services
  • Be a strategic advisor to executive and senior clinical leaders on medical workforce planning, risk, governance and service sustainability
  • Lead and influence complex decision-making and negotiations relating to senior medical appointments, scopes of clinical practice, credentialling and locum utilisation
  • Drive district-wide medical workforce strategies aligned to current and future service demand, workforce availability and clinical priorities
  • Oversee governance frameworks including MDAAC processes, credentialling systems and assurance mechanisms to ensure compliance
  • Provide high-level oversight of premium labour expenditure, locum usage and workforce cost optimisation strategies
  • Lead, mentor and develop high-performing teams, building capability, succession and a strong culture of accountability and expertise
  • Represent HNELHD on state-wide forums, committees and working groups, contributing to system reform, policy development and best practice

About You

You are a confident, credible and strategic leader with a strong understanding of the senior medical workforce environment and the ability to operate effectively at the system level.

To succeed in this role, you bring:

  • Tertiary qualifications in business, health management, human resources or a related discipline, or equivalent senior-level experience
  • Demonstrated experience working in senior medical recruitment, medical appointments, credentialling or medical workforce services (highly desirable)
  • Proven ability to provide expert advice to executive and senior clinical stakeholders in complex environments
  • Strong leadership capability, with experience managing teams and driving performance, capability development and cultural outcomes
  • Advanced negotiation, influencing and stakeholder engagement skills across clinical, operational and external environments
  • A track record of leading service improvement, reform initiatives and large-scale projects in fast-paced, high-volume settings
