Financial Controller: School Operations
1.0 FTE Ongoing

Catholic Education Tasmania is seeking a Financial Controller – Schools Operations to support the Head of Finance: Schools Operations in delivering strong financial stewardship, governance, and operational finance leadership across all CET schools.

This is a senior opportunity to contribute directly to the financial sustainability and strategic direction of schools, while leading consistent, best‑practice financial management and supporting system‑wide reform and transformation initiatives.

As a key member of the Schools Operations Finance team, you will:

• Lead consistent, accurate, and compliant financial operations across CET schools.
• Support school budgeting, forecasting, and financial performance monitoring.
• Ensure strong governance through effective financial controls, delegations, and risk management.
• Oversee school financial reporting cycles and contribute to system‑level dashboards and reporting.
• Coordinate audit processes and ensure compliance with AASB, ACNC, and CET requirements.
• Provide leadership to school-facing finance teams and support Business Managers.
• Build a high‑performance culture focused on capability development and continuous improvement.
• Support system‑wide financial reform, sustainability initiatives, and strategic planning.
• Champion alignment, simplification, and best‑practice financial management across schools.

You Will Bring

• Demonstrated expertise in school or multi‑site financial operations and reporting.
• Proven experience leading finance teams and supporting diverse stakeholders.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and financial reporting capability.
• High‑level communication and relationship‑building skills.
• The ability to lead change and support system transformation through practical, solutions‑focused leadership.

Qualifications

Required

• Tertiary qualifications in Accounting or Finance.
• CA or CPA membership (or working towards).
• Accreditation A to work in Catholic Education.
• Registration to Work with Vulnerable People (RWVP).
• Satisfactory National Police Check.

Desirable

• Experience in school finance, not‑for‑profit, or public sector environments.
• Strong understanding of AASB and ACNC standards and funding compliance.
• Experience using TechnologyOne or similar ERP systems.
