Position: 1:1 SEND Teaching Assistant
Location: Penwortham
Contract: Full‑time, term‑time only

About the Role

We are seeking a compassionate, dedicated and skilled 1:1 SEND Teaching Assistant to support a primary-aged child with severe and complex special educational needs. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful difference to a pupil who requires consistent, personalised support to access learning and thrive within the school environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide one-to-one support throughout the school day
• Implement individualised learning plans created by the SENCo and class teacher
• Use Widget/Widgit symbols and visual supports consistently to aid communication, reduce anxiety, and structure daily routines
• Support emotional regulation and positive behaviour strategies
• Liaise closely with teachers, SENCo, and external professionals
• Assist with personal care, mobility, and sensory needs where required
• Create a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning space tailored to the child's needs

Essential Requirements

• Experience using Widget/Widgit visual communication systems (this is a mandatory requirement for this role)
• Experience supporting children with severe or complex SEND
• A calm, patient, and resilient approach
• Ability to work collaboratively with the wider SEND team
• Excellent communication skills
• A genuine desire to support children with additional needs

Desirable Skills

• Relevant qualifications (e.g. Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant, SEND training)
• Experience with communication aids, structured visual timetables, sensory integration, or behaviour support frameworks
