The Role

Hedland SHS is currently seeking a highly experienced, dynamic, innovative, and proactive Design and Technology Teacher to join our Trades, Industry and Enterprise team.

The Design and Technology Teacher will provide high quality teaching and learning opportunities, while creating a positive and inclusive learning environment for all students. We’re looking for engaging an energetic teacher, who is a future thinker, someone who can build upon our traditional trades courses and build capacity to meet the needs of our twenty-first century learners by preparing them for real-world futures in Trades, Industry and Enterprise.

We’re looking for someone who has excellent interpersonal skills, who is committed to promoting and fostering student engagement and academic achievement in a supportive environment where success is celebrated. Ideally, you are student and relationship focused, highly motivated, innovative and able to work effectively in a team environment. Additionally, you will ideally reflect and assess the effectiveness of your teaching practice using a variety of methods available, promote an environment of active and positive learning, and provide educational opportunities and activities which enable students to achieve their highest potential.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who has excellent knowledge of the Western Australian Curriculum and the capacity to teach students of varying ability levels across Years 7 to 12 in a safe and accountable learning environment, differentiating curriculum where needed. Knowledge and experience in teaching Certificate Courses and Engineering Studies and Senior Secondary schooling, a strong understanding of the School Curriculum & Standards Authority (SCSA) requirements, University and TAFE requirements and pathways, and Departmental systems and policies being highly regarded.

Teachers and School Administrators employed at Hedland SHS in 2026 are eligible to receive an Attraction and Retention Incentive of $4 000 (pa, gross – to be adjusted pro rata for FTE and tenure). Eligible staff will receive a percentage of this payment on commencement at the school, with the remainder paid at the end of the school year. Staff must remain employed in the location until the end of the school year to be eligible to receive the second payment.

Mobility appointments for permanent metropolitan and south west teachers

Eligible permanent teachers who hold a substantive teaching position in a North or South Education Region school, or a South West Education Region school* may elect to undertake this role as a 3-year mobility appointment, with a right of return to their substantive position. At the cessation of the 3-year mobility appointment, teachers can elect to return to their substantive role, or transfer permanently into this school.
