About the Team:

The Department of Education employs over 120 physiotherapists to support students with disability to be successful in all aspects of learning. Our physiotherapists play a crucial role in supporting students with positioning in the classroom, moving around the school, participating in HPE and swimming, or going on school camp.

About the Role:

You will develop training based on identified needs, build capability, and ensure best practice in physiotherapy service delivery to school staff and students across Queensland, requiring expert clinical skills and experience in safely assisting students with movement and positioning (through manual handling). This 12-month role involves statewide capability development to support school teams and students in safely undertaking manual tasks and also requires the ability to provide flexible online support.

Responsibilities include:

As a Senior Physiotherapist (Clinical) – Statewide, in this role you will:

  • Formalise and implement a sustainable statewide consistent approach to capability development, specific to safely assisting students to move and position (through manual handling), for our school-based physiotherapy team. This will ensure high-quality and equitable support to school teams for students to access and participate in their education.
  • Support physiotherapists across the state to use complex clinical evidence-based physiotherapy to build school team capability to safely assist students to move and position (through manual handling). This will often be through flexible service delivery.
  • Provide subject matter expertise to physiotherapy leadership and others across the Department as required.
  • Lead and conduct specialised projects and innovative research activities relating to manual handling and the delivery and continuous improvement of physiotherapy services within schools.

This is a temporary role for 12 months. Location would be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Other responsibilities:

  • Some overnight travel will be required. This can be planned and negotiated.

About You:

The successful applicant will have:

  • Clinical skills and expertise in safely assisting students to move and position (through manual handling),
  • Strong communication skills
  • Great time management ability
  • Ability to use various ICT platforms for service delivery
