About the Role
Veritas Education is seeking compassionate, committed, and enthusiastic Secondary SEN Teaching Assistants to support students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) in secondary schools across Blackburn.
This rewarding role involves working with young people aged 11-16, helping them access learning, develop confidence, and achieve their full potential. You will work alongside teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral teams to provide tailored support for students with a variety of additional needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, speech and language difficulties, and moderate learning difficulties.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide one-to-one and small group support to students with SEN.
- Assist teachers in delivering engaging and inclusive lessons.
- Support students with emotional regulation, behaviour, and social interaction.
- Adapt learning activities to meet individual student needs.
- Implement and support Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and EHCP targets.
- Monitor progress and communicate effectively with teaching staff.
- Foster a positive, safe, and inclusive learning environment.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
- Experience supporting children or young people with SEN in a school, care, youth work, or similar setting.
- A patient, empathetic, and resilient approach.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- The ability to motivate and encourage students facing barriers to learning.
- An understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
- Relevant qualifications in education, childcare, psychology, health and social care, or SEN support (desirable but not essential).
