Advert: SEN Teacher / Head of Department - Secondary

We are seeking an experienced and passionate SEN Teacher / Head of Department to join a dedicated and supportive specialist setting in Kingston Upon Thames. This is an exciting opportunity to lead and shape provision for secondary-aged students with complex needs and PMLD, making a meaningful impact on their learning, independence, and wellbeing.

The Role

• Lead and manage the SEN department across the secondary phase
• Plan and deliver highly differentiated, engaging lessons tailored to complex learning needs and PMLD
• Develop and implement EHCP targets, personalised learning programmes, and sensory-based approaches
• Work collaboratively with therapists, support staff, and families
• Support and mentor teaching and support staff within the department
• Contribute to strategic planning and whole-school SEN development

Requirements

• QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) - essential
• Proven experience working with secondary pupils with complex needs and PMLD
• Strong leadership skills or readiness to step into a Head of Department role
• Excellent knowledge of EHCP processes, communication strategies, and sensory curriculum approaches
• A compassionate, patient, and creative teaching style

Desirable

• Child and Adult DBS on the update service (or willingness to obtain)
