Role Description/Criteria
INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC TUTOR
Ave Maria College is seeking a Piano (up to Grade 8 AMEB) and Voice Music Tutor to teach individual (with the possibility of shared) instrumental lessons. A third instrument would be advantageous.
The Music Tutor will work as a member of a highly dedicated Music Team, tutoring students in an individual setting and supporting them in their preparation for VCE Assessments, AMEB exams and performances for both piano and voice/another instrument.
Employment details
- Category: Independent Contractor.
- Rates: The VMTA recommended rates are applicable.
- Hours: Initially one day per week (for nine students). Likelihood of increased hours given a predicted increase in numbers for the program.
- Commence: Week beginning Monday 20 April 2026, or by negotiation.
Duties
- Teach individual and shared instrumental lessons for students from Year 7 – VCE
- Teach both Piano and Voice (3rd instrument is advantageous)
- Be comfortable teaching both contemporary and classical programs (Leading to VCE Contemporary Music Performance)
- Prepare students for performances / workshops and AMEB exams
- Be able to attend performance evenings and VCE exams (where necessary)
- Demonstrate exceptional interpersonal skills enabling open communication with students, parents and colleagues.
About you
- Piano and Voice tutor (another instrument would be advantageous).
- Has a degree in music/instrumental education, or equivalent industry experience
- Professional integrity, reliability, accountability, and committed to ongoing learning
- Warmth, empathy, and a genuine interest in the wellbeing of young people
- Must hold a valid Employee Working with Children Check, or VIT registration.
- The successful applicant will have a demonstrated commitment to Catholic education and to the safety and wellbeing of children.
