Freshwater Christian College is seeking an inspiring Head of English to lead our dynamic faculty. This is a pivotal middle-management position that combines high-level strategic oversight with the joy of classroom teaching. You will be instrumental in shaping the literacy landscape of our College, mentoring a dedicated team of educators, and ensuring our students achieve academic excellence within a supportive, faith-based environment.

The Role

As the Head of English, you will report directly to the Head of Secondary and work closely with the curriculum and pedagogy team. This role is designed for a leader who balances "big picture" strategy with the technical rigour required for QCAA compliance.

Key Responsibilities Include:

• Instructional Leadership: Driving pedagogical excellence and ensuring the fidelity of the English Australian Curriculum and QCAA Senior Syllabuses.
• Strategic Contribution: Developing literacy strategies and collaborating on cross-curricular instructional models.
• Quality Assurance: Leading the faculty through QCAA Confirmation and Monitoring cycles, managing AARA, and upholding high standards of academic integrity.
• Staff Mentorship: Coaching and inducting English staff to foster a culture of professional growth aligned with the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers.
• Data-Driven Growth: Analysing NAPLAN, PAT-R, and Senior Secondary data to refine curriculum scope and address learning gaps.

Nature of Appointment

• Commencing 15 January 2027, this position is full-time.
• This role includes an active classroom teaching component.
• A dedicated non-contact time allowance and a financial leadership loading are provided in recognition of the added responsibilities of this position.
• Relocation allowance may also be available.

Essential Criteria:

• Current registration with the Queensland College of Teachers (QCT), or the ability to obtain registration.
• A firm commitment to affirming and modelling the College’s Statement of Faith, Freshwater Standards, and Staff Code of Conduct.
• Demonstrated expertise in the English Australian Curriculum and QCAA Senior Syllabuses.
• Proven ability to lead a team, interpret complex data sets, and manage departmental resources effectively.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage a diverse community of students, parents, and staff.

Highly Regarded:

• Postgraduate qualifications in Education or Leadership.
