Claremont Special School is seeking an experienced and innovative Head of Department - Curriculum (HOD-C) to lead curriculum development and implementation across our inclusive learning environment.

This role is pivotal in driving high-quality teaching and learning practices and pedagogies that meet the diverse needs of students with intellectual disabilities and complex learning profiles.

This is a temporary full-time position to commence from 13 July 2026 until 25 June 2027, unless otherwise determined.

About the Role

The Head of Department - Curriculum (HOD-C) will support student achievement through the implementation of impactful pedagogical practices across our learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide curriculum leadership to ensure alignment with departmental priorities and the Australian Curriculum.
  • Support teachers in delivering evidence-based, differentiated programs that maximise student engagement and achievement.
  • Lead school-wide initiatives in literacy, communication, and wellbeing.
  • Build strong partnerships with staff, families, and community stakeholders to enhance educational outcomes.
  • Manage resources effectively and contribute to strategic planning and school improvement.

Must-Have Skills and Experience

  • Current Queensland teacher registration and eligibility for leadership roles.
  • Demonstrated success in curriculum leadership and improving student outcomes.
  • Strong knowledge of inclusive education and differentiation strategies.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Capacity to lead change and foster a collaborative team culture.

Nice-to-Have Skills and Experience

  • Familiarity with assistive technology and augmentative communication.
  • Understanding of Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) and wellbeing frameworks.
  • Background in coaching and mentoring teachers.
