We are seeking to establish a pool of Special Needs Education Assistants for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2027 school year. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.

The Role

As a Special Needs Education Assistant, you will under teacher direction, assist in the education programs and in promoting a supportive and inclusive learning environment. Education assistants will assist teachers in the delivery of planned education programs to assist students to reach their full potential through the development of their academic, social, emotional, and physical skills. Within this role you would provide feedback when required on education and therapy programs and participate in the evaluation process relating to the achievement of goals in special education

At Brookman Primary School, we value Education Assistants who build strong, positive relationships with students and work collaboratively with teachers and other staff to create inclusive and supportive learning environments. Suitable applicants will ideally display initiative, flexibility and a positive attitude, with the ability to anticipate student needs, respond calmly to changing situations and creatively problem-solve to support positive outcomes for students. The ability to work independently, use initiative, and think on your feet to manage challenging behaviours effectively is highly desirable.

Importantly, applicants should understand that effective support is about teamwork, building student capacity, communication and independence. They will be ideally willing to adapt their approach, work across different classrooms and year levels as required, and contribute positively as part of a collaborative whole-school team.

• consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education's Screening Unit before you start.

• A CV of up to two (2) pages outlining your employment history and professional learning summary relevant to this position; and
• A two (2) page statement addressing the following selection criteria as outlined in the attached JDF.
  • Demonstrated good written and oral communication skills, including the ability to interact with students with special needs, parents and teaching professionals on the provision of educational programs, and to assist teachers in understanding students where necessary.
  • Demonstrated good interpersonal skills, including the ability to work as part of a team in the evaluation of educational programs, including special education and therapy programs where these have been implemented.
  • Demonstrated ability to assist teachers or therapists in implementing educational programs, including special education and, should this be a requirement of the position, occupational and/or physiotherapy programs.
