The Department of Education’s Risk and Assurance Directorate is seeking a proactive, detail-oriented professional to support the delivery of high-quality internal audit and assurance services through coordination, analysis, and stakeholder engagement.
Context
The Department of Education's strategic plan, outlines the commitment for every child to enjoy a high quality of education. This is an education underpinned by excellence in teaching, quality leadership and pathways from Kindergarten to Year 12 to meet the needs of the learner in preparing them to take the next step into the world of work or further education.
The Professional Standards and Conduct Division is responsible for the delivery of a range of integrated functions and oversees Standards and Integrity Directorate, Risk and Assurance Directorate, Legal and Legislative Services Directorate, Parent Liaison Office and the Screening Unit.
The Risk and Assurance Directorate delivers high-level audit and risk management expertise with an emphasis on a quality audit and risk management program that addresses organisational accountability and supports a broad client need across the Department. The Directorate’s services include:
- providing assurance to the Director General and the Audit and Risk Committee that the Department's financial and operational controls are operating in an efficient, effective, economical, and ethical manner;
- assisting management in improving the Department’s performance;
- providing a risk management governance function with its focus on assisting staff to manage risks effectively; and
- ensuring the development, coordination and review of the Department’s operational policies and delegations are aligned with the Department’s strategic directions.
The Role
As Consultant – Audit and Assurance, you will play an integral role in supporting the delivery of the Department’s internal audit and assurance program. Reporting to the Manager, Audit and Assurance, you will contribute to strengthening the Department’s governance, risk management, and internal control environment through high-quality audit coordination, analysis, and reporting.
You will assist in the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of audit methodologies, frameworks, and quality assurance processes. This includes coordinating internal and external audit activities, supporting the preparation of Audit and Risk Committee papers, and assisting in the procurement and management of co-sourced audit engagements. You will undertake research, data analysis, and reporting to support assurance activities and help monitor progress against audit program targets and performance indicators.
A key part of your role will liaising with internal and external stakeholders to gather data, coordinate meetings, and ensure the timely flow of accurate information that supports effective audit delivery. Your attention to detail and ability to manage competing priorities will help ensure audit outcomes are delivered efficiently and to a high standard.
This role requires a motivated and detail-oriented professional with strong organisational, analytical, and communication skills. Your ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic team environment, manage stakeholder relationships, and support continuous improvement in audit processes will contribute to the Department’s commitment to effective governance, accountability, and performance.
