The Careers Adviser works directly to the Head of Senior School. They are responsible for providing careers and educational counselling, advice and support to assist students in finding their purpose and plan for their future. In this role they assist students with decisions relating to levels of study and course selection.
The Careers Adviser is a full-time Position of Responsibility 1 (PR1) and will undertake a 0.8FTE teaching load in Middle and Senior School.
Key Areas of Responsibility
Strategic Leadership
- Play an active role in the development and implementation of a solid Christian worldview and biblically based learning and teaching environment, ensuring that there is understanding, engagement and participation by all teachers in your area of responsibility.
- Encourage and maintain a climate of quality and excellence in learning and teaching.
- Develop collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Respond proactively to the changing education sector in line with the School’s strategic priorities, lead innovation collaboratively and model a positive approach to change in your area of responsibility.
Wellbeing Leadership
- In partnership with Wellbeing and Studies Coordinators, support staff in their guidance and direction of students as they work towards their developmental potential.
- Oversee the guidance and coaching of Senior School in terms of making wise decisions that will contribute to their future prospects, outcomes and careers.
- Supporting the Head of School to ensure that students have a clear sense of purpose and direction as they move through their studies and other school activities.
Careers Educational Leadership
Information
- Manage and promote incoming careers information and disseminate to students and families
- Promote scholarship opportunities and seek out potential candidates
- Coordinate UAC Schools Recommendation Scheme and Education Access Scheme
Careers Counselling
- Provide careers counselling / subject choice assistance for students/families
- Maintain records of all counselling interviews
- Promote and support students / families with alternate pathway options
Work Experience
- Coordinate and administer the work experience program including:
- Seek potential placements for students
- Liaise between employers and students / families
- Coordinate personal supervision of students on placement
- Maintain work experience records
Events / Student Development
Provide opportunities for students to have access to:
- Resume workshops
- Mock interviews
- UAC information and other university/CIT information
- Careers matching
- Labour market sessions
- Guest speakers – universities, gap years, financial planning, ADF etc
- Careers eXpo excursions
ACT Education / Careers and Transitions
- Point of contact for ACT Department of Education
- Attend Pathways meetings and CaT forums
Attend peak body information sessions
Staff Leadership and Management
In working with the Head of Senior School you will:
- Foster a positive and dynamic working environment by developing a team approach, ensuring open communication, transparent and effective decision-making and collaborative work practices.
- Encourage and demonstrate effective communication within and beyond the School community, including keeping staff informed about relevant decisions and issues in relation to learning and teaching in relation to the VET requirements.
Financial and Resource Management
- Develop and manage Careers budget.
Contribute to a safe and healthy workplace by
- Following Work Health and Safety instructions and policies.
- Reporting accidents and hazards.
- Generally caring for own safety and that of others, including visitors, students, parents and volunteers that may possibly be affected by actions or inaction.
Other duties
- Participate in and support the faith community of the School through prayer and communal worship activities.
- Model the faith and values of the School in interactions with colleagues, students, parents and the wider community.
- Attend staff meetings on days when rostered to attend for work.
- Attend the annual whole staff retreat.
- Attend devotions on days and times when at work. All staff are welcome to voluntarily attend staff devotions outside of their allocated work times.
- Participate in school activities requiring staff participation.
- Other duties as required.
