Attendance & Community Engagement Officer
Kimberley Schools Project are seeking to establish a pool of Attendance and Community Engagement Officer for fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise from January 2026 through to the end of June 2026. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.
The Kimberley Schools Project (the Project) is a collaborative partnership between the Department of Education, Catholic Education Western Australia, the Association of Independent Schools Western Australia, and the Department of Regional Development and Primary Industries. The Project is designed to accelerate and intensify existing strategies to address low education outcomes in the Kimberley and underpins broader economic and social development in the region.
The Project has four key components (pillars):
- Targeted Teaching – evidence-based teaching strategies, quality materials and frequent measurement of achievement.
- Early Years – community initiatives that build on and improve existing services and engage families as first teachers through the KindiLink initiative.
- Regular Attendance – community partnerships to deliver strategies that respond to drivers of non-attendance.
- Community Engagement – development with the community of extended learning programs and related initiatives. Support includes coaching and advice for school leaders and teachers around building and sustaining positive school-community partnerships.
This pool of Attendance and Engagement Officers seeks to fill roles primarily addressing the third and fourth pillars of Regular Attendance and Community Engagement.
Roles could be based in Broome, Kununurra or other regional Kimberley locations.
The Role
The Attendance and Community Engagement Officer provides strategic advice and support to schools to develop and sustain effective student and community engagement practices. The role focuses on strengthening positive school–community relationships and implementing evidence-informed strategies to improve student attendance. They support and lead the implementation of school-based procedures and processes to ensure non-attending and disengaged students are identified, supported, and re-engaged in meaningful educational programs. Responsibilities include conducting home visits and working directly with families to locate students who have disengaged from school and implementing strategies to facilitate their return and continued participation.
If successful, you will support principals and school staff to enhance their cultural awareness and responsiveness when conducting home visits. You will offer guidance and mentoring to School-Based Attendance Officers (SBAOs) and Aboriginal and Islander Education Officers (AIEOs) regarding attendance procedures, policies, and effective engagement strategies withing a school-based context.

Eligibility
To work with us, you must:
- be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident or have a valid visa with relevant work rights for the term of the appointment.
- consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit before you start.
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check
- obtain or hold a current C class licence
- obtain or hold an accredited 4WD qualification
- undertake extended overnight travel throughout the Kimberley Education Region, including travel to remote school sites
