About William Rose School

William Rose School located in Western Sydney is an inclusive Kindergarten to Year 12 School for Specific Purposes (SSP). William Rose School supports students with complex learning needs and is committed to providing students with disability an educational environment where they thrive academically, develop good physical, mental and emotional health, and gain the skills to live a fulfilling, independent life post-school. Inclusion is embedded in all aspects of school life, and is supported by culture, policies and everyday practices.

85 students are enrolled and offered diverse learning opportunities, enabling them to build skills in problem solving, making decisions and self-advocacy. 56% of our student population are identified as English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EAL/D) learners. 9% of our student population are Aboriginal students. The curriculum is tailored to individual students and reasonable adjustments within teaching strategies are supported in everyday practice. Our staff is committed to providing high quality educational opportunities for every child while acknowledging the importance of parental choice and student voice

The school focuses on enhancing effective classroom practices through professional learning and staff collaboration, which are key to reaching this aim. The curriculum is personalised for each student, and reasonable adjustments in teaching methods are consistently implemented. The staff are dedicated to delivering high-quality educational experiences for every child, while valuing both parental choice and student voice. This approach reflects the school's conviction that all students at William Rose School will progress and achieve growth in their learning.

Position Information

We seek dedicated teachers who can establish positive connections with both our students and the wider school community. At William Rose School, all teachers receive strong backing through instructional leadership. Every student is supported to learn, engage, and participate fully in school life through tailored educational and wellbeing support plans.

Our school operates on a primary school timetable, where teachers instruct their class across all subjects. This approach promotes consistency and routine for students and fosters the growth of strong student-teacher relationships. Teaching teams are composed of a teacher along with at least one School Learning Support Officer (SLSO).

Specific Selection Criteria

  • Approval to teach special education and/or experience teaching students with Severe Intellectual Disability, Autism and Physical Disability.
  • Dedication and proven skill in developing and using a wide range of accessible assessment methods to identify learning needs, applying explicit teaching strategies, and reporting on high-quality teaching and learning programs for all students.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities to collaborate effectively within a team and contribute to fostering a positive school culture that enhances learning and wellbeing outcomes for students.
  • Willingness to apply knowledge of trauma-informed practice principles in supporting students with challenging behaviours and complex health and communication needs, to improve engagement and learning success while advocating for student voice and agency.

Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
