Position Information

This is a classroom teacher–level position based at Wagga Wagga Public School and services the Wagga Wagga and surrounding network of schools, including both primary and secondary settings. This position is an itinerant teacher role, requiring the successful applicant to travel across multiple sites to provide specialist support in a range of educational environments. The role encompasses both direct classroom-based support and consultative practice, working with students with confirmed disability. The itinerant teacher works collaboratively with classroom teachers, families and multidisciplinary support teams to plan, implement and review personalised learning and support, and to provide expert advice on reasonable adjustments. The caseload can include students from early diagnosis through to Year 12. Key responsibilities include conducting assessments, contributing to review processes, and monitoring student progress. The role operates within a multidisciplinary framework across settings and requires a specialised approval to teach in special education under the HDP/HDS – Hearing Impairment code, or open to applicants currently undertaking an approved hearing course as recognised by the NSW Department of Education.

Specific Selection Criteria

  1. Approval to teach hearing or currently enrolled or undertaking in Hearing qualifications approved by the NSW Department of Education.
  2. Strong knowledge of the impact of hearing loss on communication, language development, curriculum access and wellbeing
  3. Demonstrated ability to assess student needs and contribute to the development, implementation, and evaluation of evidence-based learning and support plans, including appropriate adjustments and assistive technologies, with a willingness to use or learn sign language to maximise access and engagement.
  4. Proven ability to manage an itinerant caseload, including coordinating support across multiple schools, maintaining accurate records and delivering services across a range of educational settings.

Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
