This is a twelve (12) month fixed term, full-time position commencing Term 1, 2026 with possible extension.

The Role
The successful applicant should be able to create a learning environment that is differentiated, challenging, caring, and caters for the range of needs so all students may achieve and progress. As a Quality Teaching Strategy Lead School, the successful candidate should be familiar with the Teaching For Impact framework and have an understanding of what effective teachers believe, know, and do to enable students to succeed.
The successful applicant will ideally possess an excellent knowledge of the Western Australian Curriculum and be able to teach students of varying ability levels across Years 7 to 12 in a dynamic and highly engaging manner. Experience teaching ATAR Chemistry and/or Human Biology is highly desirable.
You should support the implementation of the school business plan, work and teach in a team environment, and be committed to whole school approaches and initiatives. The successful applicant will ideally be able to build and maintain a positive learning environment; therefore, effective classroom management is highly desirable. All teachers appointed to Girrawheen SHS should apply the principles of the school’s explicit model of instruction in their work.
As the successful applicant, you should actively participate in professional learning opportunities and continually reflect on your classroom practice to sustain a culture of high-quality teaching and ongoing improvement. You will ideally be able to articulate a clear vision that complements and supports the school’s excellent culture in teaching and learning.
The successful applicant would work in collaboration with the Head of Learning Area and the Science team to lead strategies and identified initiatives in Science that continue to drive a culture of ongoing improvement in relation to student engagement, classroom teaching and student performance across Years 7 to 12.
