Teacher - Primary
We are seeking to establish a pool of Primary Teachers for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2026 school year. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.
Are you a dedicated and passionate teacher who believes relationships are the foundation of learning?
Avonvale Primary School (PS) is seeking Primary Teachers to join our committed and caring team. We do things differently here, and it matters. Our work is grounded in healing-centred, trauma-informed practice through the Berry Street Education Model (BSEM), and we are guided by the belief that when the adults change, everything changes.
We are looking for teachers who will thrive in a culture of care, high expectations and reflection, and who see challenge as an opportunity for growth. We are proud to be recognised beyond our gates; as 2025 WA Education Awards Finalists for Excellence in Wellbeing and Learning, and as National Winners of the 2024 Sydney Opera House PLAY Award. These acknowledgements reflect the heart of our work: creating a place where wellbeing and learning are deeply connected.
Our Avonvale Story
At Avonvale, we hold a clear expectation that adult behaviour sets the tone for everything. We know that how we show up; our consistency, language, tone, and emotional regulation shapes the safety and success of our students.
We are seeking teachers who take personal responsibility for their impact and model calm, regulated, and compassionate behavior, especially in moments of challenge. They understand that professional conduct is not defined by perfection, but by reflection and the ability to repair. These educators engage openly in feedback and coaching, viewing growth as a shared and ongoing endeavor.
This work isn’t easy, but it is deeply rewarding. We walk beside each other with honesty and care, because the adults our students need most are the ones who continue to learn.

The Role
We are seeking educators who:
- Build strong, trusting relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
- Deliver high-quality, explicit teaching using evidence-informed practices.
- Create culturally responsive, engaging learning environments that reflect our community and Country.
- Embrace collaboration, curiosity, and continuous professional growth.
- Understand that student success is built upon adult consistency, care and regulation.
The ideal applicant is a passionate educator who believes that every child can learn and thrive. They should be committed to strong pedagogy, instructional clarity, and continuous improvement, and approach their work as a reflective practitioner who actively engages in professional learning and coaching. They display kindness, resilience, and emotional intelligence, even under pressure, and contribute to a staff culture grounded in trust, humour, and collective efficacy.
Both graduate and experienced teachers are encouraged to apply. We value passion and alignment with our approach as highly as experience.
Our School
Avonvale PS is a small, community-based school located in Northam, on Ballardong Boodja. Our students learn in classrooms and outdoors; from literacy and numeracy foundations to Outdoor Learning, and Two-Way Science.
Every Wednesday, while students are immersed in Outdoor Learning with our amazing specialist teachers and support staff, class teachers receive their Duties Other Than Teaching (DOTT) together allowing for high levels of collaboration, shared planning, and professional dialogue. This intentional structure supports the collective growth of our teaching team and ensures coherence across classrooms.
We are proud of our calm, connected culture where staff support each other, lead with heart, and continuously reflect to ensure every child is known, seen, and successful. We are building something special here; a place of belonging and purpose.
If you would like to visit us, you are warmly welcome — we would be very happy to accommodate that. Seeing our work, our students and our culture in action often says far more than words on a page ever could.
We welcome teachers who want to make a genuine difference — in a place that’s redefining what a small school can be.
Together we care. Together we thrive.
