The School

Kalumburu - meaning 'Path By The River' or 'River Crossing' - is the most northerly Aboriginal Community in Western Australia. It is situated on the banks of the King Edward River beside a long, deep billabong at the upriver end of Malindjar Gorge. The nearest townships to Kalumburu are Kununurra (565km SE), Wyndham (560km SE) and Derby (650km W). Road access to the region is via the unsealed Gibb River Road and dependent on seasonal conditions. Kalumburu is often inaccessible by road for four to six months of the year. Alternative access is by air and supplies are regularly delivered by sea.

Kalumburu is a place to explore breathtaking waterfalls, hidden swimming holes and incredible camping spots along the Gibb River Road and offers unforgettable weekends on Country.

If you’re seeking adventure, connection to community, and a truly unique lifestyle, Kalumburu Remote Community School (RCS) offers an experience like no other.

The Role

There are currently two (2) positions for filling as soon as possible.

Applicants will ideally be highly motivated, relationship focused educators who are passionate about creating engaging and meaningful learning experiences that inspire curiosity, confidence and a lifelong love of learning. We are seeking individuals who values strong connections with students, families and the wider community, and who is committed to making a genuine difference in the lives of young people.

Kalumburu RCS is a vibrant and supportive school with two secondary classes and five primary classes, offering educators the opportunity to work collaboratively in a close-knit team where every staff member has a meaningful impact.

We are currently seeking to ideally appoint two teachers:

  • A caring, enthusiastic and compassionate classroom teacher for a middle primary class who is committed to fostering student engagement, attendance and wellbeing.
  • A Specialist Teacher to provide DOTT across all year levels. While the specialist area is flexible and open to negotiation, Physical Education is preferred to complement our active, enthusiastic and sport focused school community. Specialist Science and Music programs are already established, providing opportunities for collaboration and the continued development of a rich and diverse curriculum.

Working at Kalumburu is far more than a teaching position; it's an opportunity to immerse yourself in one of Australia's most unique and rewarding communities while building invaluable professional experience. Teachers are supported to develop their practice, take on leadership opportunities, and become part of a school where relationships, culture and community are at the heart of everything we do.
