Teacher Flying Squad (for Permanent Teachers) - Category 1A - 2026 Appointment Pool
Teacher Flying Squad (For Permanent Teachers) Category 1A – Appointment Pool 2026
Advertised Vacancy Number: DOE1009483
Are you an enthusiastic, resilient, flexible, and adventurous educator looking for an exciting opportunity to work in a range of schools across rural, remote, and regional Western Australia? We are seeking applications from eligible, qualified early childhood, primary and secondary teachers available during the 2026 school year.
As a member of our Flying Squad of skilled teachers, you will interact with students across diverse social, physical, and educational settings and experience work in diverse classroom settings where each appointment is different. You will also receive free accommodation, travel to and from appointments and other incentives and allowances.
If this teaching adventure sounds like the job for you, we strongly encourage to apply to join our Teacher Flying Squad (For Permanent Teachers) Category 1A - Appointment Pool 2026.
The Department of Education WA has a high demand for support across a range of early childhood and primary teaching areas as well as secondary subjects such as mathematics, science, English, humanities and technologies. There are many opportunities to work in our remote community schools and make a positive difference for students.
About the role
Flying squad teachers are an important part of our workforce, playing a crucial role in filling short term vacancies in regional and remote schools across the State.
You will receive a dislocation allowance to the value of $16,500 per annum paid fortnightly. The dislocation allowance is paid in lieu of any other allowances provided to teachers based on the location of the school.
The Teacher Flying Squad is used to provide support to regional and remote schools that have an emergency need for a teacher, when the school has not been able to recruit and has no local solutions available. As a last resort, a Flying Squad teacher will be appointed to support the school while another advertising and recruitment attempt is made and to allow sufficient time for the school to be able to re-explore those efforts.
The appointments are short term and generally for periods of between five and 10 weeks in a range of schools with differing needs.
As part of our Category 1A Teacher Flying Squad team, you will travel, as directed, to selected regional and remote locations to fill short term critical vacancies. You may be deployed on short notice and on occasion, may be asked to work outside of your area of qualification for short periods.
Is this right for me?
Our Flying Squad teachers have success where they can quickly and readily develop positive relationships with students, have a strong curriculum knowledge, and use effective classroom management strategies.
Your approach will be flexible and adaptive, with a practical mindset; someone who can ‘think on their feet’. You must also be willing, and able, to travel on short notice and be able to adapt quickly to living in different towns and communities, and to interact positively in communities that are different from urban settings.
Please note, due to the nature of the short-term accommodation provided, it is extremely improbable that pets can travel alongside you to each location.
