Brisbane Youth Education and Training Centre (BYETC) and West Moreton Education and Training Centre (WMETC) are looking for enthusiastic and versatile Teacher Aides to join our team on a Part-time basis. The ideal applicants will be motivated individuals with a genuine desire to make a difference in the lives of young people, many of whom have had disrupted or negative schooling experiences.

There are currently 4 vacancies available at BYETC and WMETC: - 3 x temporary part time 0.92 FTE - 1 x temporary part time 0.79 FTE

About our Centres

BYETC and WMETC are Department of Education schools operating within the Brisbane Youth Detention Centre at Wacol. The schools caters to both male and female students from across the state who are either on remand or have been sentenced for criminal offences. The school plays an important role in the community by providing young people in detention with the opportunity to gain knowledge, skills, and values that can enhance their capacity to pursue positive choices in the future. About the Role:

We are looking for competent Teacher Aides who can work across multiple disciplines (all-rounders) and Teacher Aides to work alongside our ITD, Hospitality or HPE Teams. The successful applicant will work under the direction of the teacher to assist in the classroom and support and encourage students in their learning.

The role of a teacher aide is incredibly varied, and you may be asked to provide specialist support in areas such as:

Health and Physical Education - A Teacher Aide working with HPE teachers will assist in instructing students in sports, recreational activities and healthy lifestyle issues.

The ideal applicant will have a background in the sports, fitness or recreation industry.

Industrial Technology and Design -A Manual Arts Teacher Aide will provide assistance and support to the Manual Arts teachers by setting up equipment / tools / materials prior to classes; constructing project examples; completing maintenance of stock and equipment; general cleaning task and assisting students with their work during classes.

The ideal applicant will have some experiencing in the building, construction or metalwork industry.

Hospitality - A Hospitality Teacher Aide assists trainers in a kitchen environment where students have the opportunity to gain authentic work experience and training opportunities to produce catering menus showcasing Indigenous ingredients. While cooking industry quality food, young people make connections to the amazing knowledge of the world's oldest continuous living culture.

All-rounder Teacher Aides will provide support in the classroom across multiple disciplines, such as but not limited to:

  • Language and culture for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students
  • Specific learning needs
  • Students with a disability
  • Behaviour
  • English as a second language
  • Health and Physical education
  • Secondary school subjects such as hospitality, science and technology, manual arts
