About this job

As the Senior Advisor, Social Worker you will:

• Support students to access and fully participate in learning and experience success and wellbeing across all stages of learning by ensuring delivery of evidence-based contemporary social work services.
• Contribute to the development of statewide programs, policies, operational standards and procedures for the delivery of high-quality social work services across the region.
• Provide professional supervision, direction, leadership and support to social workers within the region.

The Senior Advisor Social Worker reports to the Metropolitan South Manager Wellbeing Workforce.

Responsibilities include:

• Provide leadership and professional supervision to regional social workers, working with regional and school management to deliver safe, high-quality services.
• Support social workers and school teams to assess needs and implement appropriate interventions for students, families and carers to improve educational outcomes, wellbeing and mental health.
• Deliver counselling, therapy, group work, referrals and care coordination in response to student and school community needs.
• Oversee the development, implementation and evaluation of evidence-based social work practices, policies and protocols across the region.
• Provide strategic advice to senior officers to support statewide service delivery and the department's Strategic Plan.
• Identify professional development needs and lead training initiatives to support career progression and clinical advancement.
• Promote system-wide services and lead projects supporting students with disability and strategic priorities.
• Maintain strong communication and collaboration with schools, regions and external stakeholders to support student outcomes and wellbeing.
• Represent the department in committees, forums and negotiations on social work matters.

A mandatory requirement of this role

• Possession of tertiary qualifications in Social Work and eligibility for membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW).

Desirable experience for this role

• Experience supervising social workers/ social work students
• Experience supporting social work professional development networks
• Experience in developing supervision tools/ case studies/ social work practice tools.
