School Financial Support Officer

About the Role

The School Financial Support Officer role focuses on providing frontline financial support and training services to Sydney Catholic Schools (SCS) staff to enable the efficient operation of the team.

The role exists to support schools in maintaining efficient and reliable accounting and administrative records that meet their internal and external reporting requirements in the provision of over-the-phone and online support, guidance, analytics and training.

Major Accountabilities:

  • providing technical and operational support on administration and financial systems via help desk application, phone and email
  • financial analysis, financial accounting processing, account reconciliation, journals and support the Operations Manager through report generation and ad hoc requests
  • assisting schools with fees and charges, preparing annual fee generation, including updating existing bill items and adding new bill items in school computer systems
  • researching problems and providing solutions to bring matters to a close
  • assisting schools in preparing reports, operating the financial systems
  • reviewing support resources and providing operational updates as required
  • assisting in the preparation and delivery of training and procedures documentation
  • assisting with attendance setup and data extractions
  • providing support for applications including using Power BI reports, Excel and Google Drive
  • supporting the refund process within school finance and administration systems
  • updating Schools Master List(s)
  • promoting and implementing Sydney Catholic Schools mission and vision To know and love Christ through learning and Thriving Catholic communities through excellent teaching and learning
  • promoting and abiding by Sydney Catholic Schools values of empathy, curiosity, excellence, collaboration and truth
  • reporting all concerns regarding child safety and allegations of inappropriate conduct to the line manager and the SCS Child Safety team. SCS is a child-safe environment and all concerns regarding child safety and allegations of inappropriate conduct will be treated seriously
  • promoting and implementing Sydney Catholic School’s mission and vision of education to focus on forming the whole person that is deeply anchored in faith, marked by educational excellence and accessible to all who seek it
  • supporting other Finance teams as directed and any other duties as directed from time to time.

About You

The successful candidate will also possess the following:

Essential
  • experienced in a Finance administration/customer service-related support role
  • previous involvement in change programs, with an ability to support rapid change and hold a steady course in an ever-changing environment
  • strong communication skills with the ability to influence and collaborate with stakeholders across organisational boundaries
  • ability to operate in a flexible, agile and innovative work environment
  • intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel, Google Apps
  • accounting System exposure (Technology One, SAP, etc.)
  • experienced in, with detailed knowledge of finance and administration functions and processes
  • self-motivated with a strong ability to work both independently and within a team
  • advanced written and verbal communication skills, as well as highly developed interpersonal skills
  • ability to train staff in finance and administration functions
  • ability to work under pressure and within agreed deadlines
  • advanced IT competency and an ability to promote the use of technology
  • demonstrated ability to multitask and set priorities and responsibilities with proven attention to detail
  • strong documentation skills
  • valid Working With Children Check clearance (WWC) number
  • willingness to respect, support, and uphold the mission, ethos, and teachings of the Catholic Church and the values of SCS.
Desirable
  • experience in a high-volume service desk environment
  • tertiary qualifications in Accounting and/or Finance
  • experience working within ERP systems (Technology One preferred)
  • experience in school environments performing Finance and Administrative functions
  • knowledge of school attendance and reporting requirements
  • experience with data exporting and mail merge
  • current driver's licence
  • is a Baptised Catholic with demonstrated evidence of ongoing commitment to the teachings of the Catholic Church and engagement in the life of a Catholic faith community, such as a parish or an established community within the Catholic Church, as an expression of their relationship with Jesus Christ.
