Position Information

Mount Colah Public School is situated in a bushland setting and is located on Dharug land, north of Hornsby. It has a current enrolment of 419 students. The NESB background of the school community is 13%, 4 students who identify as Aboriginal and the school is a member of the Hornsby AECG.

The school consistently performs above the state average in literacy and numeracy and students are provided opportunities in high potential gifted education. Reading and numeracy is supported by evidence based practice and informed by research and explicit teaching.

In valuing, knowing and caring for every student, the school embraces comprehensive well-being programs to address the learning needs of all students. The school's broader welfare programs teach healthy coping strategies, resilience and self-regulation. 

Mount Colah Public School provides a well-rounded education focused on the development of the 'whole child', through its successful academic, sport, performing arts and technology programs. The school's cultural program is enriched in the form of three bands, two choirs and two dance groups, who compete and perform both within and beyond the school. Students engage in technology programs using robotics, and STEM resources to develop their digital competencies.

The school enjoys strong parent and community involvement and is supported by an active and committed P&C.

General Selection Criteria

  1. High level educational leadership with the skills to lead and manage a complex public school focused on the delivery of high quality education
  2. Ability to lead and manage rigorous and inclusive whole school teaching and learning programs
  3. High level communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build positive relationships and engage all levels of the school and educational community
  4. Ability to lead and manage the development and performance of staff to improve teaching and learning
  5. Ability to plan systems and manage resources effectively and equitably to enhance teaching and learning
  6. Capacity to lead staff in implementing the Department's Aboriginal education policy and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people

Specific Selection Criteria

Approval to teach. In addition to the general selection criteria,

  1. Demonstrated educational leadership in driving evidence-based initiatives that promote inclusion, Aboriginal Education, and equity, to foster a culture of high expectations and accountability that achieves continuous improvement and effective engagement with all students, staff, parents, and community.
  2. Proven experience of being a highly approachable and visible leader who has contributed to developing a collaborative learning community through effective change management to improve outcomes for all stakeholders.
  3. Demonstrated capacity to engage, lead and inspire staff to build a positive team culture focused on continuous improvement to ensure every student flourishes in a dynamic learning environment.

Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.

The Crown Employees (Teachers in Schools and Related Employees) Salaries and Conditions Award 2020 details the new principal classification structure based on complexity of schools which commenced in 2016. The classification and remuneration of our school principals is based on school complexity, as measured through each school’s RAM allocation. As part of the ongoing application of the new structure a review of thresholds and outcomes will occur on an annual basis. The principal classification for this school is Principal Level P2 for 2026.
