Position Information

Gunnedah High School is a welcoming, comprehensive Connected Community Strategy High School. Located 78 kilometres west of Tamworth in the New England region of NSW, it serves Gunnedah and surrounding rural areas, including Boggabri, Mullaley, and Somerton. With a current enrolment of 410 students, 53% identifying as Aboriginal, the school is committed to meeting diverse student needs through tailored learning pathways and career-focused opportunities.

The school features a Special Education Unit with five MC classes, one IM class, and a Tutorial Centre from 2025, ensuring every student is known, valued, and cared for. General Selection Criteria

1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy

Specific Selection Criteria

Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position.

In addition to the general selection criteria,

• Proven ability to work collaboratively with the executive team to lead, manage and implement whole-school initiatives that drive the effective delivery of the School Excellence Plan.
• Demonstrated capacity to develop and support staff at all career stages through targeted professional learning and evidence-based, reflective teaching practices that strengthen quality teaching, learning and assessment.
• Demonstrated ability to lead the design and implementation of innovative, engaging and differentiated teaching and learning programs that meet the needs of all students, including high-potential and gifted learners.
• Strong understanding of best practice in TAS education, with a particular focus on embedding Aboriginal Education principles.

Conditions

Successful applicants may be entitled to a Recruitment Bonus of $20,000 (conditions apply) and a relocation support payment of $5,000 to $8,000 for eligible applicants. The Recruitment Bonus will be paid on a pro rata basis for permanent part-time teachers and executive staff. The maximum recruitment bonus available for a position is $20,000, including any job share arrangements.

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
