Position Information
Blaxland High School is a comprehensive, co-educational school serving the educational needs of the lower Blue Mountains community, from Lapstone to Warrimoo. The school maintains a steady enrolment profile of approximately 1000 students, including a support unit comprising five classes. Around 4% of students identify as Aboriginal.
Blaxland High School has a strong reputation for achievement in academics, sport, performing arts, and creative arts. The school offers a broad curriculum, featuring academic extension programs, a diverse range of electives across all learning areas, and vocational education pathways.
The Technology and Applied Studies (TAS) faculty is recognised for its innovative and engaging programs, providing students with access to a wide selection of electives that develop practical skills, creativity, and critical thinking. Selection Criteria
Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria,
- Demonstrated ability to strategically design, implement and evaluate initiatives that build student engagement and improve outcomes
- Highly developed interpersonal and leadership skills to grow a diverse, skilled and productive faculty with a culture grounded in high expectations
- Demonstrated capacity for strong educational leadership in the successful development and implementation of diverse, specialised teaching and learning programs that effectively address students’ differentiated needs
- Demonstrated ability to enhance student agency and opportunities through purposeful engagement with parents, carers, and other stakeholders
General Selection Criteria
- Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
- Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
- Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
- Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
- Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
- Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy
