John Hunter Hospital is seeking a highly skilled and motivated General Surgeon with subspecialty expertise in Endocrine Surgery to join our dynamic surgical team. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the delivery of high-quality patient centred care across Hunter New England Local Health District.

As a Visiting Medical Officer, you will play a pivotal role in providing advanced endocrine surgical services, including the management of a range of complex conditions. The successful candidate will be allocated regular operating theatre sessions, conduct outpatient clinics, and actively participate in the general surgical on call roster. You’ll work alongside a multidisciplinary team committed to clinical excellence, innovation and continuous improvement in surgical care.

This role offers the chance to influence service development, mentor junior staff, and contribute to the academic and research profile of the department. Whether you’re advancing surgical techniques or shaping the next generation of surgeons, your impact will be felt across the region.

What you’ll do:

  • Deliver elective and non-elective general surgical care at John Hunter Hospital and Belmont District Hospital
  • Supervise and teach JMOs, RMOs, surgical trainees, Fellows and medical students
  • Contribute to the development of general surgery services across the Greater Newcastle Sector
  • Support the growth of training positions in General Surgery

What we’re looking for:

  • Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in General Surgery (FRACS)
  • Completion of CSSANZ post-fellowship training program or equivalent
  • Accreditation by Conjoint Committee for Endoscopy • Gastroscopy • Colonoscopy
  • Demonstrated clinical competence in general surgical practice
