Position Information
NSW School of Languages is a languages-only Distance Education High School teaching 12 languages to 2700 students. There are over 100 teachers working at the school.
The Head Teacher Teaching and Learning has a key responsibility to work with Senior Executive in developing and optimising online courses and building staff capacity in the delivery, assessment and evaluation of these courses.
The school is located at 35 West St, Petersham.

General Selection Criteria
- Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
 - Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
 - Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
 - Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
 - Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
 - Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy
 
Specific Selection Criteria
Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria,
- Approval to teach a language offered at NSW School of Languages and demonstrated excellence in teaching practice that models effective strategies to support all students’ learning.
 - Proven ability to lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of online language courses, ensuring curriculum rigour meets diverse learner needs.
 - Experience in leading the integration of multimedia and digital resources to enhance student engagement and create accessible, innovative learning environments.
 - Strong leadership in mentoring staff and delivering professional learning programs that build teaching capacity, promote collaboration, and drive continuous improvement in student outcomes.
 
Conditions
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
