Position Information

Crookwell High school is a comprehensive rural high school with strong connections to our local community. It is situated in fertile pastoral country approximately 2.5 hours southwest of Sydney, at an elevation of 887 metres. The school population is approximately 200 Students (18 students identify as Aboriginal and 3 students with a language background other than English) and 34 teaching and support staff, with one multi-categorical class. Our student leadership teams include our School Captains and Prefects, Sporting House Captains and Student Representative Council. Our local area has a population of approximately 3100 people, with Agriculture being a predominate employment source. Our local community is a very strong supporter of our youth, with many students moving into local employment. Our Year 12 leavers are generally split with 55% going into full-time employment and vocational training, and 45% into tertiary study. Sport and community service are strong motivators for our student body, as well as educational aspirations into rural industries. We are recognised as a Centre for STEM Excellence as well as for our achievements in supporting wellbeing and positive education.

Selection Criteria

In addition to the general selection criteria, applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position.

  1. Demonstrated capacity to effectively lead staff through the current curriculum reform, syllabus changes and curriculum implementation to successfully create high quality teaching and learning programs with measurable impact for all students
  2. Proven capacity to work collaboratively and successfully with the school executive team to analyse data and to lead, implement and support whole school priorities and initiatives in the school’s School Excellence Plan.
  3. Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire a diverse faculty to develop skills and practices in explicit teaching while maintaining relationships, accountability, curriculum and assessment requirements
  4. Demonstrated strong interpersonal, organisational and management skills to effectively coordinate and lead staff across multiple courses and with staff of varying teaching experiences, while guiding curriculum monitoring and assessment practices to build staff capability

General Selection Criteria

  1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
  2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
  3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
  4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
  5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
  6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy

Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
