Lorien Novalis Steiner School is situated in the Hills District of Sydney, nestled in over 6 hectares of lush bushland and landscaped gardens. The school has been offering a rich and creative Steiner curriculum for over 50 years and has built a strong reputation for diverse, experiential and engaging education.
The Position
This position is an opportunity for a creative and engaging high school English and History teacher to join a small school with a big heart. Working with the pedagogical indications of Rudolf Steiner and the Lorien Novalis School ethos, you will be part of a diverse teaching team. With generally small class sizes, you will understand the learning needs of your students and tailor your teaching to meet the requirements for mixed-ability cohorts. You will be an interested and active participant in the school community. There may be opportunities for attending class trips to exciting places for a wide range of outdoor experiences. You will be a team player who works harmoniously with your colleagues.

Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain a nurturing, positive learning environment
- Program and deliver the Stages 4-6 English Curriculum and the Stages 4-5 History Curriculum
- Regularly review effective teaching/learning and assessment programs that meet the requirements of both Steiner education and NESA, as well as the individual needs of students
- Maintain positive and supportive relationships and to communicate effectively with students, colleagues, parents and carers
- Participate in school-based professional learning, including attendance of regular staff meetings
- Ongoing study of Steiner Education and Anthroposophy
- Participate in the Lorien Novalis community, such as festivals, musicals and open days, which occur on weekends as well as school days.
Key Selection Criteria
- Strong background in teaching English and History
- Experience in teaching in a Steiner school
- General understanding of the principles of Steiner education
- Ability to develop engaging and effective learning programs and resources
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Experience of working in teams and the ability to be a willing and enthusiastic team member
- Proven commitment to ongoing professional learning.
Essential
- Australian secondary teaching qualification
- Current NESA accreditation and number
- Current Working With Children Check (WWCC).
Desirable
- Experience teaching in Steiner schools and understanding of the principles of Steiner education
- Heavy Vehicle Licence (LR/MR) to drive school buses
- First Aid Certificate
- Willingness to attend school trips, such as camping and other outdoor activities.
