We are seeking to establish a pool of Special Needs Education Assistant’s for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2025 school year and up to the end of Term 4, 2026. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.

The Role
The Special Needs Education Assistants work under teacher direction to ideally support students with additional needs in their academic, social, emotional, and physical development. The role assists in implementing individual education programs and should contribute to a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment. Duties include supporting planned education programs, collecting resources and will ideally also supervise students during class, breaks, excursions, and other school activities to ensure safety and wellbeing.
In this position you should provide feedback on education and therapy programs, contribute to individual education plans, and collaborate with staff and external specialists to support student progress. Suitable applicants should have the ability to manage complex, high level special needs and respond effectively to challenging behaviours using positive support strategies. Completion of Team Teach training is highly regarded. Employees in this role would apply relevant experience and training with limited supervision, exercising sound judgement to adapt strategies to meet individual needs. A high standard of professionalism, confidentiality, and commitment to the Department’s values is highly desirable.

- Demonstrated good interpersonal skills, including the ability to work as part of a team in the evaluation of educational programs, including special education and therapy programs where these have been implemented.
- Demonstrated ability to assist teachers or therapists in implementing educational programs, including special education and, should this be a requirement of the position, occupational and/or physiotherapy programs.
- Demonstrated knowledge of health and physical disabilities in students and adolescents.
